Thrilled to be back for the 5th year with Matador Swim & Dive! For the Shadow Mountain High School swim team, senior banners and buddy photos have become a tradition. The extreme heat in Phoenix often forces us indoors, but that doesn't work for swim photos which need the pool for context! This year we were at Melrose Pool in Paradise Valley for the session, and while hot, there was a good breeze this monsoon season, and the students could cool off in the water. Each swimmer is photographed individually, and then I combine the images to create a composite group photo. We also do a traditional in person group photo with the team and coaches, but the benefit of a composite is that every student is clear and visible, and I use their best expression from their individuals. Both kinds of group photo are great, just each has unique pros!
Swim team media days are a unique experience. Unlike traditional sports where the action is confined to a field or court, swimming offers a dynamic backdrop with water reflecting light and motion. Capturing these moments requires not just technical skill but an understanding of the sport’s rhythm and flow.
